The best mapsite in New Zealand just got better ! We made ZoomIn even more easy to use !

New Features

• Sleek new design: We have re-designed the entire site with a cool new look and feel. We’ve added pop-up windows to change or add content to the site.
• Tabbed Search: We’ve introduced some new different search options. Now you can search for Addresses, Places or Tags on ZoomIn. And we have introduced All Search to enable you to find anything and everything on the site.
• Tags: Now you can added your own tags or keywords to any place. Adding tags helps to improve the ZoomIn search engine so it makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.
• Dynamic search: As you move around the map, ZoomIn will find search for your keywords within the current map. eg. Search for cafes in New Zealand and zoom in your favourite area to find cafes in that region.
• Local search: Now you can search within in and around neighbourhood. eg. Hotel in Auckland or Bus near Seatoun

With all the projects that we’re working on at the moment, I clean forgot that ZoomIn turned 1 year old on Saturday!

Its been a big year for ZoomIn and ProjectX. Here are some of the highlights:

• Oct 28th 2005: ZoomIn.co.nz website launches
• Nov 14th 2005: ZoomIn and ProjectX feature in the Dom Post.
• Jan 12th 2006: Places and comments appear on the map.
• March 7th 2006: ZoomIn features new street maps.
• April 5th 2006: New ZoomIn launches with users added places, photos and groups.
• April 6th 2006: ZoomIn launches Aerial photography.
• April 24th 2006: ZoomIn.com.au launches
• April 27th 2006: ZoomIn passes 1000 users.
• May 10th 2006: IFrame support launched.
• July 27th 2006: Smaps launches using ZoomIn search engine
• September 17th 2006: New maps on ZoomIn.
• October 2006: New content added to ZoomIn, Post offices, parks, schools, and bus stops.
• November 2006: New ZoomIn – ??

I was having a look at our webstats and it seems that the average screen sizes are on the rise…

I was just browsing around the New Zealand site and I spotted that NZTR has added over 50 racecourses to the site. From Ruakaka racecourse in the north to Winton racecourse in the south.

A big thanks to NZTR for adding all racing information to the site.

We’ve started adding new data to the ZoomIn. With the new maps comes a lot more data.

So far, we’ve added:

• Emergency services like: Police Stations, Fire Stations and Ambulance depots
• Golf courses
• Car Parks

Coming soon:

• Schools and Educational Institutions
• Places of Worship
• Hospital and Medical centres
• Parks and Recreation areas

We’re adding all of the places to map, so you can access the zoomin goodness ie adding comments, and pictures etc.

We’ve completed the first stage of our map upgrade. We are now using our new maps based on Terralink data. The maps are now cleaner and easier to read. We have street directions, intersections and some points of interest such as schools and parks.

During the upgrade some of the suburb data was changed to accomodate the new data, all inbound links have been updated to redirect to the right place.

The second phase of the update is due to be complete by the end of the weekend. If you spot any errors, please let us know.
